Thought for the Day
Psalm 9:13-14 (The Message)
Be kind to me, God;
I’ve been kicked around long enough.
Once you’ve pulled me back
from the gates of death,
I’ll write the book on Hallelujahs;
on the corner of Main and First
I’ll hold a street meeting;
I’ll be the song leader; we’ll fill the air
with salvation songs.
In the verses preceding the above verse, the writer talks about sharing God’s praises for alls He has done, and then follows with the above verse. Sometimes we are ready to scream God’s praises from the house tops, and then we hit a trial and tell God "If you get me through this, then I will change this or that." How many times do we tell God "When you… then I’ll"? God does not need us to make a deal with Him. He wants us to trust Him and have faith that He will deliver us from our trials, storms, enemies and circumstances. Once we realize He loves us just because, then we can rejoice with a sincere heart of thanksgiving with the knowledge that we did not have to coerce or bribe God to do something for us. If we live in the faith that He is God, our Provider, our Prince of Peace, Everlasting Father and much more, we will sound like the below verse.
Psalm 118:17-20 (The Message)
I didn’t die. I lived!
And now I’m telling the world what God did.
God tested me, he pushed me hard,
but he didn’t hand me over to Death.
Swing wide the city gates—the righteous gates!
I’ll walk right through and thank God!
This Temple Gate belongs to God,
so the victors can enter and praise.
