Thought for the Day

Proverbs 4:23-27 (The Message)
Guard Your Heart
Keep vigilant watch over your heart;
that’s where life starts.
Don’t talk out of both sides of your mouth;
avoid careless banter, white lies, and gossip.
Keep your eyes straight ahead;
ignore all sideshow distractions.
Watch your step,
and the road will stretch out smooth before you.
Look neither right nor left;
leave evil in the dust.
Guard your heart from evil. Do not busy yourself in idle gossip or bad jokes. Do you think those are what Jesus wants to hear? Keep a pure heart! Many times this is a daily struggle for many Christians. In our work, school or any public setting we enter into each day, we hear nothing but negative, perverseness, and twisting of truth. Many times we feel exhausted by the end of the work week just fighting against the spirits of this world that try to penetrate our hearts and minds. That is why it is important to meet with God each day and let our hearts touch Him and be touched by Him. We need the daily cleansing that only God can give us. He is our strength. Nothing else can replace Him.

This Scripture is so powerful and very important to always apply to our lives. We must guard our heart. We hear it many times that what goes into us, usually comes out. If we are not prepared for the day, and we are constantly in this type of atmosphere of negativity and such, it will be so easy for us to begin talking and acting the same way. But if our heart is full of God’s Word, there is no place for the junk to reside. Another thing that comes to my mind about “guarding our heart” is not allowing bitterness, anger, etc to enter in when we are hurt by someone. We have the choice or control of what we allow our hearts to receive. Some people don’t realize that. We have to be strong enough to say, “HEY! I refuse to be offended and hurt by this situation. I choose to NOT receive it. I will NOT allow it to enter my heart!” Bottomline is…our mind is the battle ground. Don’t think on the bad, but keep your mind renewed by the Word of God and think on things that are good, pure, etc.

Very true Connie. Our mind is really a battleground. It’s very difficult at time working in an atmosphere full of negativity. It just rubs right off if you are not careful. Many times we need to stop and take a few breaths, then think on something positive.
Thanks a lot for your comments! I really appreciate them. I am so happy you enjoy my posts. Hope to be able to start work on podcasting soon. I can’t wait for that to happen.
