Love Even When Unlovable

Do you ever find yourself struggling to love others? To respond in kindness?

1 Corinthians 13:4-7 (NIV) tells us
“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always preseves.”

Compare your response or reaction to this scripture. Go down through the above scripture and ask yourself a question at each descriptive. We can apply all these questions to a Husband, Child, Wife, Boss, Pastor, Mother, Father, Aunt, Brother, Sister, etc. For example “Am I patient with my ? when they?” “Am I kind to ? when they?” “Do I wish my ? was like or compare my ? to someone else’s ?” “Am I trying to boast and be self-seeking for approval or praise? Or am I truly proud and humble about my ? accomplishments.”

This is an excellent way to check your reactions and your motives. The key to loving and being kind and so on, is to respond to the need, not react to the action, hurt, or whatever else is causing you to not live this scripture out the way God intended. NO, not everybody is lovable all the time and we may feel like they do not deserve kindness, but be honest and check yourself. Are you always the example of a lovable person who deserves everyone’s kindness all the time? I know I’m not.

1 Corinthians 16:13-14, “Keep your eyes open, hold tight to your convictions, give it all you’ve got, be resolute, and love without stopping.” (MSG)

Yes. It is hard to do this, but Jesus loved us so much He bore our sins on His shoulders. If He can love someone like me, or someone like that person you are in the midst of writing off from your life, think about these scriptures and what God did for you and those you have trouble loving. No, you won’t be perfect, but you will be striving for perfection in your witness to others showing Christ’s characteristics. Stick with it! Imagine if God had given up on you.

Have you ever felt a nudge in your spirit to go pray for someone you don’t know? In a place you don’t feel appropriate?

My husband and I have had many conversations about this. One thing that helps to know is, if they reject it, they aren’t rejecting us. They are rejecting God and His power. We’re just the middle man…. or woman.

My husband is from India, a culture where approaching people is not a bother to them. I however am learning that it’s okay to do that. We grew up totally different in different cultures and religions. My culture basically tells me to leave people alone and don’t bug them, but Vishwa is a different story! He prays for people in Grocery stores, retail stores, malls, on the street and anywhere else he sees someone and feels like he should pray for them. People seem fine on the outside… if you feel God leading you, no matter how they look, do it. They might be a mess on the inside. You might be the one God is sending to make a difference in their lives!

Have a great day!

Thought for the Day

Stop Complaining!

tiger-lily

No one said life would be easy, and complaining will only make you feel more helpless to do anything about it. Instead, remember what God has done in your life and make an effort to be cheerful no matter what. You can always go to God with your needs, but why not spend some time just thanking Him. You will notice a shift in your outlook on life.I like how The Message Bible puts this into perspective.

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 The Message (MSG)
16-18 Be cheerful no matter what; pray all the time; thank God no matter what happens. This is the way God wants you who belong to Christ Jesus to live.

Don’t Just Pretend

Ever feel lonely or see someone who looks that way?

Romans 12:9-10 tells us
“Don’t just pretend to love others. Really love them. Hate what is wrong. Hold tightly to what is good. Love each other with genuine affection, and take delight in honoring each other.”

When I read this scripture, something pricked me inside my soul. I think if we really took time to think about it, we would notice that this is lacking in our busy schedules, because we just don’t have time to stop. First and foremost we are called to be God’s children. We are how many people meet Jesus and we may be their only glance in to Him. He took His full attention and gave it to us. Can’t we just give little of ours here and there? After all, He came and died for them too.

There are so many people in this world who are sitting in a silent lonely state of mind…. Who may seem to have everything, but lack in the most important things such as friends, family, or just want to know that someone genuinely cares if they are alive in this world. We know one who is all those things and who wants us to be those things too. Remember your most lonely moment in life. Now magnify that feeling by a couple of times and you will have a small idea of what many people are going through right at this moment.

A smile, a greeting, a cup of coffee, or even having lunch with someone may take up a half hour to and hour of your time, but that hour can change somebody’s life. It may change their whole life. It may give them a glimmer of hope. Remember, where we go Jesus goes. The second greatest commandment is to love your neighbor like your self. The first is to love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul and mind. The Bible says that there is none greater than these commandments. (Mark 12:29-31)

Hey, no one told us following after Jesus would be sitting idle and doing nothing. Take a moment out of your busy life and show the lonely that they are not alone. It’s the least we can do. After all, someone cared for us enough to do the same.

Remember, Jesus is the reason for the season we are celebrating right now! Love one, another and have a very Merry Christmas!

Isn’t it the most wonderful time of the year?
The Christmas season is a beautiful time of year! It’s a reminder of how much God loves us. That He came down in flesh as Jesus to die for us that we might enjoy everlasting life with Him. He came and suffered for us. He was persecuted and hated for us. If God has not robed Himself in flesh we would have no hope in this life. Never forget the reason for celebration. Try to bring the true meaning of Christmas back to those around you. Santa is fun, but Jesus is the true meaning of CHRISTmas cheer this season. Love your families and bless one another during this time of Giving.

Have a blessed and very MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!!!!

Are you easily distracted during your prayer time? I know I can be.
While reading a morning devotion about how Jesus got away an prayed, the author talked about how she wondered if Jesus ever got distracted like we do, if His mind wondered or not. She said she then realized He probably didn’t because Jesus was always in the “presence” of His father when He prayed. She then went on to say that to keep her mind from distraction during her prayer time she began to imagine God drawing near to her and leaning over to hear what she had to say.
I thought, what if we sat at a table with a chair opposite of us and invited God to sit with us while we pray. Then, either journal our prayer to Him, looking up at that seat to remind us whose company we are in, (this would work especially if in a place where you do not have a time of solitude by yourself as well. Journaling is your conversation with God that no one else can hear) or pray while looking at that empty chair. Read the word out loud with God sitting at the table with you. It’s okay to have your tea or juice, because this is you and your heavenly “Dad” just sitting together, praying together and talking about what is in your heart.
Step out of your comfort zone and try something new…. It might be awkward, but you may draw even closer to God.

God Is ALWAYS With Us

Have you ever felt that God was nowhere to be found? You called on him and you didn’t hear anything?

I have felt that way before. If we are honest, I bet we all have, even the most spiritual of us. If we are not careful, the devil can twist that feeling and doubt and cause us to fall away. Before we give in to that feeling of doubt and rejection, stop and ask yourself what did God have to say about leaving us?

In Hebrews 13:5 KJV God tells us
5 Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.

And Matthew also tells us in 28:20 KJV
20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

See that? God will never leave us. He is always there when we don’t feel Him. He said He will be with us always even unto the end of the world.

We all go through these times. Our reaction is what makes the difference. I have heard well-known evangelists express they even have gone through these times. I have also found and heard testimony that when individuals like you and I have felt that way, and felt God was far from them, they were used to minister to someone mightily! Even in department stores. Remember, no matter what, God promised to be with us. He will always hear our cries.

Psalm 34:15 says
15 The eyes of the LORD are upon the righteous, and his ears are open unto their cry.

Whether we feel Him or not, God is beside us, He hears us and loves us. Don’t give up!

Hope In Our Trials

We Can Find Hope in our Trials.

Sometimes we find ourselves stuck in a trial that seems to be going on forever. Maybe it goes on for months or even years.

The Bible tells us in Romans 5:1-4 (KJV)
1 Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:
2 By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.
3 And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience;
4 And patience, experience; and experience, hope

Many times in my trials, I don’t see God or what work He is doing during this time, but the important thing I need to remember during those times, is that God is still by my side working even though I feel like He is a million miles away. He will be my strength though I feel like I have none, my victory when I feel totally defeated and my hope when I feel like I can’t go on.
This scripture tells us that something does come out of those trials that we all dread.
I like how this scripture reads in the Amplified Bible.

3 Moreover [let us also be full of joy now!] let us exult and triumph in our troubles and rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that pressure and affliction and hardship produce patient and unswerving endurance.
4 And endurance (fortitude) develops maturity of [a]character (approved faith and [b]tried integrity). And character [of this sort] produces [the habit of] [c]joyful and confident hope of eternal salvation.

I will build endurance going through, trusting and depending on God during my trials. Eventually, my character will change for the better and I will have that hope that only can come through trusting God. God gives us victory and tramples down our enemies (Psalm 60:12)

Yes it is hard, especially after a long period of time, but once we come out on the other side of that trial, it will be worth it and we will see the changes and the testimony that comes out of it. Keep holding on to Jesus! He is the hope!

Be Cheerful in Tough Times

flowers

Philippians 2:14-16 The Message (MSG)
Do everything readily and cheerfully—no bickering, no second-guessing allowed! Go out into the world uncorrupted, a breath of fresh air in this squalid and polluted society. Provide people with a glimpse of good living and of the living God. Carry the light-giving Message into the night so I’ll have good cause to be proud of you on the day that Christ returns. You’ll be living proof that I didn’t go to all this work for nothing.

If we cannot show the hope and peace of God to the people of this world, where else will they find it? Be cheerful in those tough times, even when you don’t feel like it! Pass on a smile to someone even when that’s the last thing you feel like doing. Let this world can see Christ through you while you are weathering a storm or while you are on a mountain top. If someone hears us do nothing but complain or argue, chances are they will not think too highly of our God. Let’s be the witnesses God wants us to be.

Have a blessed day.
